We are a friendly group of non-auditioned singers who would love to welcome new members in all voice parts with an especially warm welcome extended to tenors and basses!
We enjoy singing a varied repertoire and in the last 12 months we have:
• Hosted a community performance of “Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose” by Alexander L’Estrange for Purbeck Art Weeks
• Sung the UK premiere of Helen Ostafew’s “Requiem for Humanity”
• Taken part in a Choral Anthems Workshop with the Dorset Guild of Singers
• Welcomed the Purbeck Youth Choir to sing the “Chichester Psalms” and the “Manchester Carols” at our Christmas Concert
We meet on Thursdays at 7.30pm at St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Northbrook Rd, Swanage, BH19 1QE. Do come along and if you would like to know more, please ring our conductor Jay Buckle on 01929 425865.
The Purbeck Arts Choir is one of the founder members of the Dorset Guild of Singers and this year will be joined by four other Dorset choirs, professional soloists and orchestra to perform Elgar’s magnificent choral work ‘The Dream of Gerontius’. Elgar wrote his powerful oratorio in 1900 and was justifiably proud of it saying: “This is the best of me…this if anything of mine is worth your memory”.
Elgar based his work on a Victorian poem by Cardinal John Henry Newman. It is a spiritual and profoundly moving tale of a devout man’s journey to heaven. The Guild is delighted to welcome internationally renowned tenor Joshua Ellicott to the demanding role of Gerontius. Do not miss the opportunity to experience this profoundly moving work with its dramatic choruses, orchestral climaxes, terrifying demons and compassionate angels.
Tickets are only £15 and can be purchased locally on 01929 422208 or via the Lighthouse website.
A return coach journey is also available with pick-ups in Swanage, Corfe Castle and Wareham for only £10 – Booking Essential. Please ring the same local number as for tickets to book your seat.
